In Memory: Ursula K. Le Guin

January 23, 2018—Like so many others, we are saddened to learn of the passing on Monday of the great writer Ursula K. Le Guin. The news came through a breaking news announcement in the New York Times.

Ursula Le Guin has been a friend to CSWS, appearing as the keynote speaker at our 2013 40th Anniversary Celebration and over the decades at various events. She has been a friend to the UO Libraries, appearing at several James Tiptree, Jr. symposiums in recent years. With UO Libraries and the Clark Honors College, CSWS has offered the Le Guin Feminist Science Fiction Fellowship since 2013. UO Libraries houses the papers of Ursula K. Le Guin in Special Collections and University Archives. In fall 2017, UO Theatre presented a production of a play adapted from her Nebula Award winning novel The Left Hand of Darkness.

We honor her memory.

Here is an audio remembrance of Ursula Le Guin, featuring friend and novelist Molly Gloss, from Think Out Loud [OPB; KLCC].
