Directed by Theresa May, the Pulitzer Prize–winning play “Water by the Spoonful” to debut on campus

CSWS faculty affiliate Theresa May directs the 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Water by the Spoonful,” which will open at the Hope Theatre in the Miller Theatre Complex on the University of Oregon campus on Jan. 21. Tickets are free to UO students. Theresa May until recently served as a member of the CSWS Advisory Board. Theresa May is an associate professor of theatre arts at the UO.

“Water by the Spoonful” is about a soldier, Elliot, who struggles to find friendship and family after serving in Iraq and returning home to North Philadelphia. The play follows Elliot as he finds solitude in a chat room for recovering addicts.

The playwright is Quiara Alegria Hudes, who wrote the Tony award-winning musical, “In the Heights.” The play will premiere Thursday, Jan. 21, and it will also be shown Jan. 22, 23, 28, 29, 30 and 31. Tickets are $16 for adults and $14 for UO faculty, staff, non-UO college students and students in high school.
