Shifting Poetics: Trans of Color Movement in Digital Media, with micha cárdenas
After unprecedented visibility for trans women of color in 2014, the number of murders of trans women more than doubled in 2015. In this talk, cárdenas elaborates a trans of color poetics that can improve the chances of life for transgender women of color, who continue to be the number one target of murder among LGBTQ people in the US. cárdenas will discuss her practice-based research projects, including Local Autonomy Networks (Autonets), Redshift and Portalmetal and UNSTOPPABLE.
Dr. micha cárdenas is an artist/theorist who creates and studies trans of color movement in digital media, where movement includes migration, performance and mobility. cárdenas completed her Ph.D. in Media Arts + Practice in the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. She is a member of the artist collective Electronic Disturbance Theater 2.0. cárdenas is an assistant professor of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington | Bothell.
