August 2018—Courtney Thorsson, associate professor of English and a CSWS faculty affiliate, received a National Endowment for the Humanities Public Scholars award in the amount of $60,000 for her project “The Sisterhood and Black Women’s Literary Organizing.”
This award will fund research and writing leading to publication of a cultural history of a group of African American women writers, founded by Alice Walker and June Jordan, who met in New York from 1977 to 1978.
