“Sacrificing Families: U.S. Policies and the Displacement of Central Americans,” with Leisy J. Abrego, Assistant Professor, UCLA César E. Chávez Department of Chicana/o Studies. Trained as a sociologist, Abrego studies families, Central American migration, and Latino immigrants’ lived experiences of U.S. immigration laws. She will be discussing insights from her book, Sacrificing Families: Navigating Laws, Labor, and Love Across Borders (Stanford University Press), which examines the economic and emotional well-being of immigrants and their families—both in the United States and in the home country—as these are shaped by immigration policies and gendered expectations.
