“Sacrificing Families: U.S. Policies and the Displacement of Central Americans,” with Leisy J. Abrego, Assistant Professor, UCLA César E. Chávez Department of Chicana/o Studies. Trained as a sociologist, Abrego studies families, Central American migration, and Latino immigrants’ lived experiences of U.S. immigration laws. She will be discussing insights from her book, Sacrificing Families: Navigating Laws, Labor, and Love Across Borders (Stanford University Press), which examines the economic and emotional well-being of immigrants and their families—both in the United States and in the home country—as these are shaped by immigration policies and gendered expectations. This event is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Women in Society’s Américas Research Interest Group.
